Sunrise – Sunset – Mixed Media

March 6 2016

Hello – I am not very Bold where it comes to Mixed Media scrapbooking. In fact,I am not brave enough to use all the color sprays and texture mediums that’s so in fashion in the scrap community….But I do love looking at it and drool… A Year or two ago,I got the Sunrise – Sunset paper collection from Prima,in a Kit and this is my version of Mixed Media…

‘Beautiful Sunset’

DSC_0907

I chose ‘X – Radiant’ for my first layout. I distressed the papers a little bit and ‘stitched’ it back where it had torn. I did some gesso and paint splatters and stamped here and there…I added sewing thread and ‘snap buttons’ and pulled it all together with ‘Sunrise – Sunset’ wood buttons and stickers. The flowers are from Petaloo

‘Perfect Sunrise’

DSC_0906

I had these beautiful photos from wild flowers from our visit to the desert in bloom back in my home country,South Africa. The plain card stock in the kit was perfect for these. The flowers are from Petaloo and the wood flourish from Kaisercraft.

‘Beautiful Lady’

I loved this lacy paper!!! Perfect for ‘Vintage’ photos… Sunrise – Sunset col ‘Aperture’. It was perfect for this beautiful photo of my Mother- in- Law.I used yellow paint to stamp with in the background, together with gesso, modeling paste and a stencil from Prima. The flowers are from Petaloo and I use the Spellbinders dies for the frames behind my photo.

‘Inspired Art’

I used an old paintbrush on this lo….I used gesso, modeling paste and a stencil. I left some paint splatters and stamped here and there….the flowers are from Petaloo and Prima.

‘Grateful for Everyday’

DSC_0918

Here I have just let my imagination run wild…I made ‘waves’ with rolled up paper and added some gesso to it…The white mesh was an onion bag recycled…

Using plain Card stock from the kit.I started with a ‘flag’ of Vellum paper. I added stickers from the ‘crystal sheet’, flowers from Prima and Tim Holtz ink.

Again,I used a photo with  my Mother-in-Law. To add texture to my paper,I cut slits with my craft knife here and there and added lace and inked the edges. I made paint splatters and used a glass and blue ink to make the circles…

Easter Basket

I made a Basket for  a table center piece for Easter…

DSCN1639

…and this is how I did it..

DSCN1469

I Used Meg’s Garden ‘Spring Paisley’ col – Burgundy Paisley – ( as this was part of a kit from Scrap That Kit Club) and cut it in strips and I cut a circle for the bottom of the ‘basket’… mmm…Coffee…..

DSCN1470

Next I painted the strips with Mod Podge to make it more sturdy and wipe clean with a wet cloth….if you so wish… and let it dry over night…

DSCN1286

To make the basket base,I cut a circle and cut slits in it to the ‘center’….and folded it up and tied a string around it to keep it in tact….

DSCN1287

DSCN1289

Next I added a foam ball and glued it down… this base is also for a ‘Cupcake’…….

Forgot to take a picture of the next step….hahahaha…. I weaved the paper strips around the base to form my ‘basket’….

DSCN1641

I decorated the basket with lace trim,a paper doily and I added a ‘handle’ to it…..

Next I just went wild with adding flowers…..a cute bunny and a sentiment…..

Meg’s Garden collection

I have started scrapbooking a very long time ago and my blog (scrappybychoice) not too long ago – I am trying to bring some of my older scrap pages and projects onto my blog….This collection of scrap pages was done for a monthly kit club that I really loved – Scrap That.  Sadly the club discontinued . Not sure if these papers and flowers are still available….The first one I did with these gorgeous papers was :

‘My Garden’

I used plain white card stock in the back and painted it with gesso. Then I used one of the sheets of paper from Meg’s Garden ‘Spring Paisley’ col (Spring Green Toile) and I fussy cut the corner of the beautiful roses and leaves.DSC_0772 I mounted the ‘corner’ on cardboard for a 3D effect and then glued it to my white card stock…For texture,I used dry moss that you would use in flower arranging.I used: –  Meg’s Garden  ‘ Spring Paisley’ col (Spring Green Toile), Prima Shabby Chic ‘Resin Birds’, Metal Bird cage,Wood buttons from the ‘Craftsman’ col ,Prima flowers ‘Tessitura B’ and I used Tim Holtz die cut for the bigger bird cage…and some Kaisercraft die cut pieces (eggs inside the cage and the Dragon flies) …

The next one I did was:

‘Backyard Beauty’

DSC_0768

With this layout,I didn’t do anything to the background. The papers are so beautifully detailed already… I used a  round cut photo of my garden statue (we called her Edwina) and backed it with a  paper doily. I stamped the chipboard butterfly with green and added micro beads to it. Here I used : Meg’s Garden ‘Spring Paisley’col (Green Eau De Lavade) , Prima flowers ‘Romance Novel’ (Black velvet) , ‘Tessitura B’ ,Wood Buttons from ‘Craftsman’ col, Junkyard ‘Industrial lamp’, Wood clips (Peg) and Chipboard butterfly from Dusty Attic.

‘Us 3’

DSC_0767

Here,I cut a strip out from behind the photo and made a ‘banner’ and curled the edges to the front and glued them down. I added doilies and flowers under the banner for a 3D look and added micro beads to the title. Used :Meg’s Garden ‘Spring Paisley’ col (Pink Eau de Lavande), Prima Resin Angel and flowers.

Up next:

‘Prima Ballerina’

DSC_0766Here,I just cut some of the flowers and leaves with my craft knife, inked the edges and lifted it a little with pop dots to give that 3D look. I’ve cut out the photo of my little girly and added stamped wings.I made the flowers with the ribbon from the kit. I added a few ballerina stickers from my stash.

‘Dear Lord’

DSC_0773I used plain card stock from Bazzille here and added my fussy cut pieces to it on the background and added some micro beads to it. To add texture,I used cheesecloth and dry moss…The flowers are from Petaloo ‘ New Camelia’ and Kaisercraft.

‘Cherished Time’

DSC_0769On plain card stock. I used a stencil in the back with a marker for some interest. For texture I used dry moss and leaves. Here and there I used pieces from my stash. Used on the LO are: Flowers from Petaloo ‘Penny lane’ col , Prima Junkyard Lamp and clock hands , wood clock and buttons from the ‘Craftsman’ col. The film strip was from Tim Holtz.  The photo is my very, very young Father-in-Law

‘New Beginnings’

DSC_0770Again on plain card stock. I still had some flowers left and still felt like creating…..

‘Dream’

DSC_0771  …still going strong…using every last bit of paper from the kit….

and way at the end, I used the very last bit of paper and made an …

‘Easter Basket’

DSCN1639I used the ‘Burgundy Paisley’ paper…cut it into strips and used both sides of the paper to ‘weave’ the basket. I used flowers and trim from my stash to fill the basket with Easter flowers….

Altered Box and Mini Album – in – One

Hello….I am in the  mood to be creative and make something other than just Layouts. I have so many wooden birdhouses, boxes, frames and canvasses that’s begging for my attention….So this week, in-between cleaning house, doing the laundry and caring for my family,I made this little box and mini album. Because it’s February, the month of Love,I used a heart shaped box….

DSCN9274

I used Simple Stories ‘I Am’ collection. I covered the box with some papers and punched the edges and inked them.

DSCN9254

I used foam dots to create 3D with the stickers and fuzzy cutting on the lid and a Prima mask ‘Basket weave’ and Molding paste for some texture…

DSCN9253

The flowers are from Prima ‘Frost Danse Roses’ on the lid…

DSCN9269

The lid opens up to reveal the Mini Album….

DSCN9262

The Mini Album is attached to the Lid and the bottom of the box…I used Hot glue to make sure it stays put when you pull the lid off…..Again I used Simple Stories ‘I Am’ collection.

DSCN9271

The Mini Album folds up into the box…..

DSCN9243

It was a Lovely,Messy process and I Loved it….

Altered Birdhouse

Today is a beautiful, snowy day. It is Saturday 13 Feb. My family had a late breakfast and everyone is looked after, the dog,the cats and the birds….Now it’s time for ‘Me-time’…Hopefully!! I bought a few birdhouses a while back and had this dream of doing something with it,but never did…So today I decided to pull one out and make something….and what better place to take photos of my project than outside in the snow…..

This is What I made….

DSCN9187

It started off with a little wooden Birdhouse from the Dollar store ($2). I tore little strips of paper, inked the edges and started on the roof…DSCN9175

..I curled the edges up for a 3D effect..

DSCN9174

I cut a hole in the back to insert a tea candle (the battery operated ones)…

DSCN9176

…and this is what it looks like with the lights off and the tea candle on inside the little house…..

DSCN9180

Some close ups: I used Kaisercraft ‘Base coat’ col – ‘Rock’ for the walls and chimney. Prima flowers ‘Hello Pastel’ vine and a Resin birdy (I used markers to color the birds…DSCN9236

DSCN9197

I used Kaisercraft ‘Base Coat’ – ‘Concrete’ for the roof and inked the edges with Prima inks….’Ingvild Bolme’s ‘Dark Rust’.

DSCN9202

Prima birdie, little nest and a Prima flower. I used twine around the base of the house…. (…and real snow)

DSCN9195

DSCN9219

…and there it is on the mantel in the TV room, with the ‘candle’ burning, warming the room on the snowy Saturday.

Black and White Plus one

Funny sometimes how you look at other scrapper’s layouts and you think that you will just never ever be able to scrap like them…Long time ago there was a challenge running on one of the many scrapbook sites. You had to use black and white plus one color. I made these layouts, but was not brave enough to enter them…..But now I feel like sharing them on my blog…for me….

These photos are special to me. This was my very last year of school. My Last School Dance….

# 1 ‘Last Year of School’

Portraits of the Past

The sad thing  in life, is that we have to say good bye to people we love. People that meant the world to you.People that left a hole in your heart…But we will always adore them! They will be in our hearts forever! That is way I love photographs! It stop time, freezes it in place….When my Parents-in-Law passed away,we got a box of old photos!! This is one of my favorite photos…

This is my Father- in Law when he was about 2 years old….long, long ago…

‘Portraits of the Past’DSC_0947

I thought the Bo Bunny ‘Timepiece’ collection was perfect for the photo of my Father-in-Law. Here he is about 2 years old – in 1933. Just adorable!

IMG_0641I made the paper flowers to compliment my layout…..

IMG_0642

Making the flowers : Circle punch and a small flower punch, ink pads and glue.. You need to punch 2 circles (or cut by hand) and about 5 little flowers per flower. Ink one of the circles in the middle,I used yellow… Cut your circles in to ‘petals’,spray with water and scrunch up,leave to dry…..then unfold carefully. Shape and fold your ‘petals’ to your liking and the put your flower together. First you flower that’s not inked, then your inked flower, then your 5 little flowers….make sure they overlap….end with the very last little flowers still in a ‘bud’…let the glue dry and fix it to your project…

Adventure

There are just so much inspiration out there… I am inspired by my gorgeous little girly and the beautiful scrap paper collections and embellishments. It can just make your imagination go wild….. This Layout is a ‘fairy tail’… My little baby is entering a wide, big world. She is out to explore all that’s on offer out there….

I am using Kaisercraft ‘Base Coat’ collection. It is just beautiful….

‘Adventure’

DSC_0857

I tore the one sheet ‘Concrete’ and glued it over the second page ‘ Rock’. To ink the edges,I used the inkpads from Ingvild Bolme. To set my girly on a beautiful adventure of exploring,I added Prima flowers ‘Mini Sachet Sunrise’ (blue), ‘Soubrette’ (white) and a vine from the ‘Engraver’ collection. The Prima lamp is guiding her…I love the resin pieces at the bottom. The Petaloo butterflies will keep her company…. To make the ‘wall’ look a bit more ‘real,I added some Rub-on words….

This is what Fairy tales are made off…
